Do you know that 57% women and 67% children are anaemic in India? (NFHS-5) To address anaemia Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launched ‘Anaemia Mukt Bharat’ Program that applies 6Í6Í6 strategy. The strategy includes 6 categories of beneficiaries with 6 types of interventions and 6 institutional mechanisms. The program has special focus on the health and nutrition needs of children, adolescents, women of reproductive age group, pregnant and lactating mothers. The target population under this program is 44 crore beneficiaries.

Contributing towards the ‘Anaemia Mukt Bharat’ Program, Jivika Healthcare’s Swasthya Sawari initiative in partnership with the Government of Jharkhand, Rockefeller Foundation, Give, BCG, USAID, Jhpiego and Nishtha provides anaemia testing facility for adolescents, women of reproductive age, pregnant and lactating mothers residing in hard-to-reach, remotely located villages. Anaemic beneficiaries are provided iron folic acid supplements and are counselled on diet modification for consuming iron rich diet.
A 24 years aged, young woman named Ms Savitri Kumari came to Swasthya Sawari camp with a complaint of weakness and dizziness on 26th of November at Butgodwa village of Gola block in Ramgarh district. When screened for anaemia, her hemoglobin level was found to be very low (7.7 g/dL). She was counselled on diet modification and was given iron folic acid tablets to combat anaemia.
In the follow-up she revealed that she has started including more green vegetables in her diet and is regularly consuming the iron folic acid tablets tablets provided. Combating anaemia is important to improve the overall health of adolescents and women of reproductive age. We are grateful to all our partners who have joined hands with us to address the issue of anaemia through screening, counselling and treatment of anaemia.
