Anaemia & Nutrition Project

Nutritional deficiencies, particularly iron deficiency, are among the most frequent causes of anaemia. In developing nations, most anaemic women consume less iron-rich foods that prevent the body from absorbing iron. Unfortunately, a large percentage of women in India are anaemic. To address the issue, Jivika has developed a specialised program to reduce the prevalence of anaemia amongst adolescent girls (10-19 years) (59%) and women (15-49 years) (57%), augmenting the government’s efforts to reduce the burden of anaemia and malnutrition.  

According to WHO statistics, anaemia affects 40% of pregnant women and 42% of children under the age of five worldwide. In India, figures are alarming since 59% of adolescent girls (15-19 years) and 57% of pregnant women (15-49 years) suffer anaemia. Maharashtra alone has a high rate of women who are anaemic. According to the latest NFHS-5 survey, the state comprises 55% of non-pregnant women and 46% of pregnant women who are anaemic.

 

In light of the Government’s ‘Anaemia Mukt Bharat’ initiative, which addresses the concern of increased prevalence of anaemia among different age groups across the country, Jivika has come up with a unique approach to become the extended arm of the Government. 

 

Jivika Healthcare’s initiative ‘Swasthya Sawari’, which is HWC-On-Wheels, is successfully running in the districts of Jharkhand, solving the issues of accessibility and availability for the underserved and the underreached population.

Our Objective is to expedite and augment the government efforts toward reducing the anaemia prevalence in line with ‘Anaemia Mukt Bharat’.
