The burden of diabetes is increasing globally with increase in unhealthy lifestyles. According to WHO, Non Communicable Diseases accounted for 74% deaths globally in 2019 of which diabetes resulted in 1.6 million deaths, thus becoming the 9th leading cause of death globally. The estimates in 2019 showed that 77 million individuals had diabetes in India, which is expected to rise over 134 million by 2045. Approximately 57% of these individuals remain undiagnosed.
Screening of Non-Communicable diseases like diabetes, hypertension and three most common cancers (oral, breast and cervical cancer) is an integral part of healthcare services provided by Swasthya Sawari. In rural areas many people remain undiagnosed of diabetes due to lack of screening facilities. Jivika Healthcare is bridging the gap by providing diabetes screening facility.
31 years old Mrs. Reena Mandal in Swasthya Sawari medical camp
31 years old Mrs. Reena Mandal came for general check-up at Swasthya Sawari medical camp organized in Chakarbali village of Gola block located in Ramgarh district. She had a history of uncontrolled sugar level and renal calculus. She was on hypoglycaemic drugs, but on screening her BSL (Blood Sugar Level) was recorded to be 136 mg/dL which is considered to be hyperglycaemic. She was counselled and was referred to CHC Gola for further evaluation and treatment.
