Healthcare on Wheels is a mobile medical service focusing on screening, diagnosis,
treatment, counselling and referral to expedite and augment the government’s efforts toward
the achievement of its comprehensive primary health care goals. It is designed to guarantee
equal access to high-quality healthcare services in hard-to-reach underserved areas.
It offers screening services for 20+ disease conditions. These encompass a broad spectrum,
including Communicable Diseases such as tuberculosis, typhoid, and malaria, as well as Non-
communicable Diseases like oral, breast, and cervical cancers, along with hypertension and
diabetes. Furthermore, the initiative ensures comprehensive Antenatal Care (ANC) by
conducting seven essential tests recommended by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Additionally, Swasthya Sawari extends its services to cover eye care and oral care,
demonstrating a holistic approach to healthcare.
This mobile healthcare model effectively reaches underserved communities, overcoming
geographical barriers and aligning with national health guidelines to provide standardized and
accessible healthcare services.

Approach

  • Planning and Mapping: Identification of villages located 3-5 km away from the existing healthcare facilities, utilizing mapping tools for strategic planning.
  •  Community Engagement: Conduct a two-day prior community mobilization
campaign, leveraging support from local stakeholders to raise awareness and
    participation.
  • Health Camp: Organizing health camps in key community locations such as
Panchayat Bhawan, Anganwadi Center, or Community Hall. Tents are utilized for
camps in case of infrastructure limitations.
  • Referral System: An operational referral system for referring suspected or severe
cases to government healthcare facilities for specialized care.
  • Patient Navigation System: A robust system to track and monitor beneficiaries’ healthcare journeys, ensuring effective follow-up and coordination.
