In India, Covid vaccination drive started from January, 2022. Some people are still hesitating to get vaccinated. Several myths and misinformation prevail among people regarding Covid vaccine especially in the rural areas. VaccineOnWheels makes Covid vaccine accessible to the underprivileged and unreached people of the society. Our teams reach out to people and clear all their myths and doubts regarding the vaccine.
On 7th of March, 2022 one of our mobile vaccination unit operating in Godda district of Jharkhand organized a Covid vaccination camp at Koriana village of Raha Panchayat located in Basant Rai block of Godda district. During the camp our team was informed by the local ASHA worker that a 59 years old woman named Mala Devi had not even received the first dose of Covid vaccine. Whenever the ASHA worker asked her to get vaccinated she made excuses. She was scared of the vaccine and thought that she would die after getting vaccinated. Our team members went to her house along with the ASHA worker and counselled her. They made her understand the importance of getting vaccinated. They told her that it is very important to get vaccinated to stay protected from Covid. She finally agreed and our team administered her the first dose of Covid vaccine.
Looking at Mala Devi getting vaccinated, 8 more people of the village turned out to get their first dose of Covid vaccine. The local ASHA worker thanked the team for convincing her and others to get vaccinated. Likewise, our teams convince many people to get vaccinated. We are very grateful to our partners- ICICI Foundation and Government of Jharkhand for supporting us to make Covid vaccine accessible to the unreached people.
