Taking Healthcare Services Closer to Communities

Hypertension or elevated blood pressure is a serious medical condition that significantly increases the risks of heart, brain, kidney and other diseases. An estimated 46% of adults with hypertension are unaware that they have the condition. Less than half of adults (42%) with hypertension are diagnosed and treated.

According to WHO, nearly 63% of total deaths in India are due to non-communicable diseases, of which 27% are attributed to cardiovascular disease which affects 45% people in the 40-69 age group. Raised blood pressure is among the most important risk factors for CVDs. Moreover, it remains poorly controlled due to low awareness about hypertension, lack of appropriate care through primary care and poor follow up.

Jivika’s Healthcare On Wheels provides screening facility of NCDs with a special focus on hypertension, diabetes and three types of cancers (oral, breast and cervical cancer). On 7th of September, 2023 medical camp was organized in Uttar Chekhadari village of Boko block. A 54 years old woman named Bhanubala Choudhary was diagnosed of hypertension. She was counselled on diet modification and lifestyle changes and was referred to BPHC Boko.

Several follow-ups were taken and she was counselled to visit the referral centre. After several counselling, Bhanubala visited BPHC, Boko and is currently on medication for hypertension. It is important to control hypertension to reduce the health risks associated with it. Jivika ensures early screening of the NCDs for timely control and treatment.
