Cervical cancer is the only cancer preventable through vaccines. Though preventable, it still is one of the most common cancers and is the leading cause of mortality among women across the globe. Cervical Cancer vaccination programs have been credited with substantially reducing the disease burden in many countries. Research shows that the girls aged 9-14 years have the best immune response to the vaccine, ensuring maximum cervical cancer prevention.

To bridge the gap in the accessibility of Cervical Cancer vaccine among the underprivileged girls of 9-14 years of age, Jivika conducts Cervical Cancer vaccination campaigns for school-going, school dropouts and girls from marginalized communities.

This Cervical Cancer vaccination campaign focuses on equity, quality and accessibility of the vaccine for the girls of 9-14 years’ age group belonging to low-income families. The campaign is also addressing the issue of unacceptability of the vaccine through awareness generation sessions for the beneficiaries as well as their parents and IEC material distribution for increasing the knowledge of the target beneficiaries on the topic.

Approach

  • Identification of Govt. aided schools and girls belonging to marginalized communities
  • Awareness campaigns and mobilization in schools
  • Registration and consent of the target beneficiaries (9-14 years’ girls)
  • Vaccination camp with AEFI management facility
  • Post vaccination observation and issue of vaccination card to the beneficiaries
