- The presence of Doctor and AEFI kit during vaccination helps to gain the trust of people and convince them that COVID vaccine is safe to be administered.
- Involvement of local stakeholders, like ASHA, ANM, Sarpanch and other influential people played an important role in spreading the awareness about COVID vaccination.
Challenges
- Unavailability of people during the day time in villages was one of the challenge that we came across. To solve this, we organized late evening and early morning camps when people were available.

- Recruitment of local staff members enabled us to connect well with the communities and motivate them to get vaccinated.
- The strategy of 3 days’ prior community mobilization turned out to work very well as people had two days’ time in hand to plan their schedule accordingly.
Challenges
- During the agriculture season people did not turn out to get vaccinated, so we started vaccinating people by reaching out to them in fields where they worked.
- In case of children’s vaccination, parents were not ready to get their children vaccinated. We took help of the School teachers and principals to convince the parents.

- Use of mic and speaker in community mobilization helped in mobilizing masses efficiently.
- Involvement of teachers in mobilizing parents for children’s vaccination worked out very well and we received a positive response from parents.
Challenges
- Lack of awareness about the COVID vaccine in rural and tribal communities was one of the major challenge in the district. We took help of the local stakeholders to create awareness.

Positive Learnings
- Vaccination camps at worksites like brick kilns, farms and construction sites helped to reach out to the left out people who are mostly the daily wage workers.
- Proper planning and mapping of villages helped us to vaccinate maximum number of beneficiaries in a day. We covered more than one villages in the same route in one day.
Challenges
- Late evening camps were not feasible in some villages, as people did not turn out to get vaccinated after coming back from work.
- The list of number of unvaccinated people did not match when we visited the villages as many people migrated to cities or other states for work.

- Support of Gram Panchayat members played a crucial role in convincing people to get vaccinated in the interiorly located tribal villages where people were not ready to get vaccinated due to several misconceptions about the vaccine.
Challenges
- Travelling to remote villages was a challenge due to the hilly topography. It took long hours to reach the remote villages.

- Support from local Corporators in mobilizing the communities residing in urban slums helped to convince people to get vaccinated and they also supported in managing crowd at vaccination camps.
Challenges
- Mobility in the slums due to overcrowding was a challenge for the team.

- By conducting vaccination camps at worksites like sugarcane factory and brick kiln we were able to cover more number of people.
- Announcements in temples and mosques also helped us to get maximum beneficiaries.

- Manual reporting was a task and a digital reporting system (app based) would make reporting easier.
- Vehicle broke down from time to time which delayed the work.

- Micro planning and splitting of teams worked well to vaccinate maximum number of people.
- Late evening camp for sugarcane factory workers.
Challenges
- In some villages the list of unvaccinated people did not match as some people migrated from village for work.
- Vaccine hesitancy prevailed in some communities. Even after counselling multiple times only 10% people got convinced to get vaccinated from the community.

- Circulation of flyers in Whatsapp groups of villages for mobilization worked very well to mobilize people.
- It was easy to convince people to get vaccinated due to presence of doctor and ambulance.
Challenges
- It was challenging to reach to some remote and hilly villages through ambulance.
- Vaccine hesitancy among tribal community. They told that they will get lifetime diseases if they get vaccinated. In spite of counselling several times, we were able to vaccinate only 10-20% people in some tribal villages.

- Weekly meeting was very helpful to understand the strategies applied by other teams. It was a good cross learning session. We often got the solutions of our problems through the cross learning session.
Challenges
- The number of unvaccinated people did not match when the team visited the villages as many people migrated to Gujrat for work. They returned back to villages during festival (Holi) when we vaccinated them.
- Travelling consumed more time as the terrain was hilly and hard to reach.
