Inculcating Health-Seeking Behavior in Rural Areas

Access to primary healthcare is the basic right of each and every human being. Unfortunately, in rural areas, people do not have health seeking behavior due to several factors. They do not prioritize health. Some of the factors affecting the health seeking behavior or people are- lack of awareness, lack of transportation facility and other socio-economic factors. Easy accessibility of quality healthcare services is one of the solution to change the health seeking behavior of the rural population.

Jivika’s Swasthya Sawari provides quality healthcare services with more than 20 disease screening facilities in the hard-to-reach areas of Jharkhand. One of the mobile medical unit operates in Palkot block of Gumla district. During one of the health camps in Tilaidih village of Palkot block a 73 years old male, named Situ Ekka came with a complaint of pain and weakness in right leg. After examination, the Medical Officer diagnosed him of varicose vein. He was counselled to seek early care and was referred to District Hospital, Gumla for further investigation and treatment.

Inculcating health seeking behavior among rural population is important for betterment of health indicators. Jivika lives by its motto of serving the underserved through its intervention in health.
